On a path media

On a path media is the hub for the Social Media Education & Consulting services of Michelle Jones. Social Media Education & Consulting? I know, it doesn't sound like a real job right? What does it mean exactly? It means I want to help.

I love helping people find and use web based tools and technologies that help them communicate, be more productive and even just consume information and entertainment more easily. These tools and technologies fall under the umbrella term Social Media. The communication and personal development opportunities Social Media gives us really knock my socks off. I want to share that excitement with you and help with your Social Media needs. Oh yes, you have Social Media needs my friend. You may not know it yet, but trust me you do. I'll help you figure out what those needs are and what to do about them.

I've been an passionate user and dedicated observer of social media for several years (I launched my first blog in 2002). These years of experience have convinced me of the benefits Social Media has to offer businesses, non-profits and individuals. I sincerely believe Social Media has fundamentally altered the way we get and share information and will continue to do so. There is no turning back the clock. There is no returning to the status quo one way communication model where businesses put out a continuous stream of advertisements, press releases and other marketing materials. Social Media has enabled two way conversations both between customers and businesses and between customers and other customers. Put another way: Social Media has chucked the monologue model in favor of dialogue.

Social Media has enabled people to communicate like never before and communicating we are! You might have a few questions about all this communication and I've got a few questions you as well.

Who are we communicating with? We're talking to old friends and new friends, complete strangers and close relatives, colleagues and potential clients, vendors and buyers, our neighbors across town and folks on the other side of the world. Who are you talking to? Where are you having conversations?

What are we communicating about? Our lives, our selves, our relationships, our shopping experiences, our interactions with companies, our experiences with specific employees, our impressions of products, our kids, our dogs, food, sports, money, our favorite products and brands, whiskey, sex, religion, travel, cars, cooking, politics and every other topic you can imagine, including your company, your products and your brand. Do you know what we're saying? What are you saying to us?

Who are we? We're everyone. We're passionate users, disappointed customers, potential clients, consumers, outsiders, insiders, fans, brand enthusiasts, Mac, PC, male, female, young, old, boomer, gen x, millennials. We're beyond any narrow demographics you can dream up. I might fall into the 18-34 female demographic group but that doesn't tell you anything at all about me or what I'm passionate about. It doesn't tell you what I like to spend my money or my time on. But if you pay attention I'll tell you those things. Who are you? Companies are made up of individuals. Are individuals in your company communicating with us? Or instead does your corporate culture pretend individuals don't exist and all your information comes from "the corporate voice?" What are you telling us? What are you sharing about yourself and your company?
